Yesterday morning the president-elect Donald Trump launched into a powerful Twitter rant in which he accused Hillary Clinton of hypocrisy for refusing to accept the election results and for joining Jill Stein’s call for recounts in three key election states.
Hillary’s team announced on Saturday that it would join a recount initiated by Stein in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Trump was swift with his response and took to Twitter, as he does, Sunday morning to make a yet another long rant at Hillary.
A Six-Tweet-Long Statement
The president-elect’s screed consisted of 6 tweets and contained several Hillary quotes via which he tried to depict her as a hypocrite.
“Hillary Clinton conceded the election when she called me just prior to the victory speech and after the results were in. Nothing will change,” Trump first tweeted Sunday morning, then an hour later came the six-tweet message mentioned above.
“Hillary’s debate answer on delay: “That is horrifying. That is not the way our democracy works. Been around for 240 years. We’ve had free and fair elections…
“’We’ve accepted the outcomes when we may not have liked them, and that is what must be expected of anyone standing on – during a general election…
“’I, for one, am appalled that somebody that is the nominee of one of our two major parties would take that kind of position.’”
Trump then went on to paraphrase one of Hillary’s remarks she made in a rally speech after their famous debate.
“Then, separately she stated, ‘He said something truly horrifying … he refused to say that he would respect the results of this election. That is a direct threat to our democracy.’”
After that came another quote, this time from her acceptance speech after losing the Electoral College vote.
“She then said, ‘We have to accept the results and look to the future, Donald Trump is going to be our President. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.’”
Will This All Be In Vain?
It is pretty clear what Trump is trying to say here, but can those recounts really make a difference? According to his last tweet in this rant – no, they really can’t.
“So much time and money will be spent – same result! Sad.”
