Next to Hugh Jackman, there aren’t many actors that really stuck to the “X-Men” franchise for more than two movies. Sir Patrick Stewart was one of the stars that made the franchise what it is today, but unfortunately for the fans and any future movies, he just quit the “X-Men!”
It’s Nothing Personal
During an interview on Larry King Now on Wednesday, the legendary British actor made it clear that he will never again return to his role of Professor Xavier.
The 74-year-old star had four performances at the said role, with his most recent one in the 2014 movie “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
As if this wasn’t enough, Sir Patrick Stewart also revealed that there are more actors who will join him.
After confirming that he won’t reprise his role in the franchise, Stewart said: “Nor Sir Ian McKellen, either. I learned quite a lot more about it last night and it…it is…looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters, so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.”
As we know, these two acting giants starred alongside James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as their younger counterparts in the last movie. And from what we can tell, it seems like the “First Class” generation of actors is on a steady path toward completely replacing the old crew in the franchise.
Who Will Fill The Void?
Even though Bryan Singer, the director of the “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” hasn’t commented yet on the latest development, the movie’s producer, Simon Kinberg, had something to say about all this.
In regard to the next installment in the franchise, “X-Men: Apocalypse,” Kinberg said that the movie “really follows the stories of the… ‘First Class’ X-Men—Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nick Hoult and the others of that generation of ‘X-Men.’”
The new generation of “X-Men” actors consists of pretty talented individuals, and it is certain that the fans will love to see Apocalypse wreak havoc upon the mutant team of heroes. However, we can’t help but feel a bit of sadness for seeing names like Sir Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen leave the franchise for good.
